James A. A. Pabarue

Jim Pabarue is a co-founder of Christie, Pabarue, Mortensen and Young and a member of the firm’s Board of Directors. Mr. Pabarue has had over 30 years of experience experience and represents a wide variety of commercial clients, non-profit organizations and individuals in litigation matters. His practice areas include commercial litigation, insurance coverage litigation, employment disputes and criminal matters. Mr. Pabarue also chairs the firm’s Employment Practices Department and advises and represents employers in employment matters.

Mr. Pabarue began his career in 1978 as an Assistant District Attorney in Philadelphia, trying hundreds of jury and non-jury trials. Thereafter, as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, he was lead counsel on a number of high profile cases, including a municipal corruption case involving bribery of Philadelphia School District officials. In private practice, Mr. Pabarue has been trial counsel in many landmark cases in the area of environmental insurance coverage, including Diamond Shamrock v. Aetna, et al. and ACMC v. Stonewall, et al. Mr. Pabarue has also represented individuals in federal grand jury investigations, including the “Filegate” investigation headed by Special Prosecutor Kenneth Starr. In the employment area, in addition to advising employers with respect to their employment practices, he has represented employers in cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, racial and gender discrimination, FMLA and ADA violations and age discrimination.

During his career, Mr. Pabarue has been a frequent lecturer, making presentations at American Bar Association national conferences, Tort and Insurance Practice Section conferences and the Pennsylvania Bar Institute’s Annual Employment Law Institute. Mr. Pabarue has also written numerous articles on topics relating to insurance coverage and employment issues.
