Matthew H. Shusterman

Matthew Shusterman devotes a large amount of his practice to the representation of insurance carriers in complex insurance coverage actions involving asbestos and toxic tort liabilities and municipalities in administrative law proceedings.

His recent experience in environmental coverage litigation involved the dismissal of his client based on a lost policy defense. Furthermore, he has represented the City of Philadelphia in preventing the elimination of paper Transfers by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority and defended a civil rights suit, against a Philadelphia Police Officer. Mr. Shusterman has also worked on briefs concerning the litigation between the City of Philadelphia and two casino operators.

Mr. Shusterman also has experience in ecclesiastical matters. His most recent experience includes helping to defend the Bishop of Pennsylvania in an ecclesiastical trial against The Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America.

Mr. Shusterman joined the firm in 2007 after serving as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Robert Shenkin of the Chester County Court of Common Pleas. As a law clerk to Judge Shenkin, he organized the initial intake of all pre-trial and post-trial motions. Mr. Shusterman also wrote legal memorandums to the judge on a variety of issues involving preliminary objections, summary judgment motions, motions relating to discovery, service of process concerns, coverage issues and zoning appeals.

Mr. Shusterman currently volunteers for the Philadelphia Police Athletic League and was a member of the Syracuse Mentor and Leadership Program during law school.
