Bradley J. Mortensen

Shareholder

Mr. Mortensen is a founding shareholder of the firm and serves as Chair of the Insurance Practices Department. He has represented insurance company clients in insurance coverage disputes since 1988. The primary focus of his practice is commercial contract litigation, coverage analysis, litigation of coverage disputes, and the negotiation and resolution of intra-insurance company disputes and disputes between policyholders and carriers. Mr. Mortensen’s practice encompasses environmental matters, toxic torts, directors and officers liability, errors and omissions, first and third-party property disputes, and reinsurance litigation. Mr. Mortensen also has extensive experience in defending public entities in highway design, general liability and eminent domain cases.

Mr. Mortensen is admitted to the Bars of the State of New York and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as well as the United States District Courts for the Northern District, Eastern District and Southern District of New York and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He has also appeared on behalf of clients in the courts of New Jersey, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wyoming, California, Texas, Alabama and Tennessee.

A frequent speaker at professional conferences, Mr. Mortensen is often asked to speak on bad faith, allocation and the complex interrelationship between, and the corresponding duties of, primary and excess carriers.

Mr. Mortensen began his career as an attorney with the New York State Attorney General’s Office. After his initial service in the Real Property Bureau, Mr. Mortensen spent six years as a trial attorney in the Claims Bureau of both the Albany and New York City Offices of the Attorney General. In that capacity, he defended the state in a variety of tort, contract and property matters, including medical malpractice, psychiatric malpractice, benefits liability, highway design defects, eminent domain and peace officer liability litigation.

In 1992, Mr. Mortensen, Mr. Christie and Mr. Pabarue (then with the Philadelphia law firm of Clark, Ladner, Fortenbaugh & Young) joined with James A. Young to form Christie, Pabarue, Mortensen and Young, A Professional Corporation. Since the firm’s inception, Mr. Mortensen has served as a Team Leader, Chair of the Insurance Department and a member of the firm’s Board of Directors and Management Committee.

Mr. Mortensen also serves as Secretary, General Counsel and a member of the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Trisomy 21 Center, a non-profit organization that seeks and raises funds for a research and treatment center dedicated to children with Down Syndrome.
